Let’s try out the voice cloning features in ElevenLabls and Descript.
Elevenlabs does very well at creating unique and realistic TTS voices in their voice lab. They also have a feature that lets you clone your own voice (or any voice you have the right to use) by uploading a short audio file. You can then create text-to-speech audio in your voice, rather than the voice of a random non-existent human.

Descript, which is known for features like video editing by editing text, correcting eye-contact with AI, fancy captions, and a whole lot more, has just upgraded their AI voice engine. Where it used to require 10 mins to an hour or more of uploaded audio – and a day to process – it now only requires a minute of recorded audio and is ready to use in about a minute.

We’ll try each of these, ElevenLabs and Descript, with the same scripts – a really short sentence and then a slightly longer script (about 20-30 seconds) to see how they do.
