We will present Hossam Madhoun’s accounts of life currently in Gaza from October 2023 to the present day as part of Messages from Gaza Now. Hossam is co-director of Theatre for Everybody, who have been in partnership with Az Theatre (London) since 2009. In these messages he shares his reality with us.
Alongside this we will read from the Gaza Monologues which are testimonies written by ASHTAR youth in 2010, after the first war on the Gaza Strip. Tragically, these monologues are still relevant today.
These accounts highlight the horrors, hopes and resilience of Gazans to a wider audience, giving voice to the courageous children and people in Gaza.
We aim to intersperse the monologues and accounts with music, poetry and additional pieces from Palestinian artists and allies in response to the ongoing violence. There will be an interval. After the interval there will be some time to reflect together.
All funds raised from this event will go to ASHTAR Theatre (Ramallah), Theatre for Everybody (Gaza) and Freedom Theatre (Jenin).
This night is dedicated to all the beautiful minds, the minds that are barely hours old, to those we’ll never know, and more recently to Refaat Al Areer; Artist, Academic, Poet, Educator, Activist. A beacon for so many. We dedicate this evening to him. We honour his legacy.
Presented by a grassroots collective of cultural workers, united in support of the Palestinian people.
We want to make this event accessible and inclusive. If you would like to attend but are not in a position to pay, please don’t hesitate to email (standwithpals@gmail.com)
