This video is a reconstruction of the Gaza tunnel bombings in early 2009. The piece combines actual recorded audio from the events with my own staged bombing.
This series explores the relationships between the news media, the subjects of the tragedies the media portrays, and the American viewer. The work questions our roles and responses to the idea of suffering, which often becomes an abstract or removed concept for a culture anesthetized by media, entertainment, and violence. Combining audio and video from actual events with my own staged responses also allows me to blur the lines between fact, fiction, and dramatization and probe their subsequent emotive powers.
