Trump seems to think he’s an emperor – but we are not entertained. Commodus was mad, and it took a gladiator to bring him down. America has the polls. Trump issued an executive order today to demand new Federal buildings be “beautiful.” The order denounced modern architectural styles. Both the American Institute of Architects and National Historic Preservation objected, saying the problem was not with classical architecture per se but that mandating an official style is not fully compatible with 21st-century democracy.
Given his love for gold, gilt, black marble, and baroque, not to mention the golden toilet he had installed in the Trump Tower in New York, I am guessing he would like to see more of a Roman Empire design with a large bust of his head on top of every new building. Every structure should be dedicated to what he thinks he is, a Roman God. Trump thinks he’s an emperor – but we are not entertained.
